Pick a window
You choose morning, afternoon or a late slot. We confirm a two-hour arrival window the day before, and message if the van is running early.

Maple Orbit is a two-van domestic outfit. We test before we open anything, put the scope and price in writing, and leave a labelled board behind. Switchboards, staged rewires, lighting, EV supply and the faults nobody else could find.
Symptom index
Most calls begin with one of these nine. Find the closest match, read the likely cause, and you will know roughly what we test on arrival before you book anything.
Usual causeThe circuit is loaded past its rating, often an older radial feeding a kitchen full of modern appliances.
What we checkMetered load under real conditions, breaker rating against cable size, then a price for a dedicated appliance circuit.
Prompt
Usual causeVoltage drop from an undersized supply cable, or a neutral that has worked loose at the board.
What we checkTorque check on every board termination, voltage logged under load, main tails and meter connections inspected.
Urgent
Usual causeA loose conductor arcing behind the plate. It does not settle down on its own.
What we checkCircuit isolated the same day, accessory opened and inspected, plate and damaged cable tail replaced.
Urgent
Usual causeOverheating insulation, usually at a buried junction inside a wall or ceiling void.
What we checkThermal sweep along the circuit, the nearest accessible junctions opened, insulation resistance tested end to end.
Urgent
Usual causeMoisture tracking into an outdoor accessory, or one failing appliance sitting on a shared RCD.
What we checkCircuit split to isolate the leak, earth leakage measured, wet-area circuits moved onto their own RCBO.
Prompt
Usual causeA broken ring, or a single failed connection at one accessory partway around it.
What we checkContinuity tested both directions, the break located, connection reinstated and the whole ring retested.
Prompt
Usual causeA pre-1970s installation with no earth on the lighting circuits and no RCD protection anywhere.
What we checkFull condition report first, then a staged rewire plan you can spread across rooms and seasons.
Routine
Usual causeNo spare way left on the board, and no protected route out to where the car actually parks.
What we checkLoad calculation against the main fuse, a cable route survey, then a charger on its own RCBO.
Routine
Usual causeThermal cut-outs tripping in unvented fittings, or a dimmer module mismatched to a small LED load.
What we checkClearance above each fitting in the ceiling void, dimmer matched to lamp load, vented fittings where insulation is tight.

Service matrix
Durations are typical for an average three-bedroom home and are confirmed after the survey. Anything outside these lanes we will say so plainly rather than improvise.
| Workstream | Scope | Time on site | Included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switchboard upgrade | Replace a fuse board with an RCBO-per-circuit board and label every way. | Half a day, with power down in short stages. | New enclosure, RCBOs, main switch, printed circuit schedule, test certificate. |
| Staged rewire | Room-by-room replacement of rubber or fabric-insulated cable. | Two to four days per stage. | Chased cable runs, new accessories, plaster lines made good, written stage sign-off. |
| Fault finding | Trace tripping, earth leakage and dead-circuit faults to a single cause. | About two hours to diagnose. | Insulation and continuity testing, the finding in writing, repair priced before we continue. |
| Lighting & dimming | Replace fittings, add circuits, match dimmer modules to LED loads. | Two to five hours. | Vented fittings where clearance is tight, load-matched dimmers, old fittings taken away. |
| EV charger supply | A dedicated supply from the board out to a driveway or garage unit. | One day. | Load calculation, protected cable route, its own RCBO, commissioning notes. |
| Safety inspection | Condition report on an installation before a purchase or a letting. | Two to three hours. | Circuit-by-circuit results, coded observations, a plain-language priority list. |
How a visit runs
No open-ended day rates and no work starting on a verbal estimate. If step three changes what we found in step two, you get a revised figure before we carry on.
You choose morning, afternoon or a late slot. We confirm a two-hour arrival window the day before, and message if the van is running early.
The affected circuit goes off, we prove it dead, then meter it. Readings are written down before anything is dismantled or replaced.
You see the work, the parts and the price together. Approve it and we start; leave it and you owe only the diagnostic time.
Test results, an updated circuit schedule inside the board door, and a written note of anything we suggest keeping an eye on next year.
Standards & field notes
Most of the faults we are called to were installed by someone in a hurry. A junction buried behind plaster with no access. A 2.5mm cable pushed onto a 32A breaker because it was what was on the van. Lighting circuits extended off a socket ring. None of it fails on the day it is done, which is exactly why it keeps happening.
So we work to a slower checklist. Cable is sized to the run length and the load, not to the breaker that happens to be spare. Every joint is either in an accessory or in an accessible enclosure. Boards get a printed schedule that matches reality, because the next person in there may not be us.
When we find something out of scope, you hear about it the same visit with a code and a plain sentence explaining whether it matters this month or this decade. No scare quotes, no bundled upsell.
